Monogram Combinations

Unique Monograms combining multiple styles.

Monogram Styles Used:

Monogram: S

This single letter monogram is intended for a shower curtain.

We wanted something very bold and simple, so we started with the letter S from Applique 2XL Monogram Set. This style is digitized in conventional applique form. Color 1 is a running stitch, which acts as a placement line if prepared applique fabric is being used. Color 2 is a light density zig-zag which acts to tack town the fabric along it's cut edges, and Color 3 is a wider satin stitch that covers up the first two colors and provides a finished embroidered edge.

It's always possible to skip the applique process by just letting all three colors sew out in sequence, but without an applique insert. That's what we did in this case. You might prefer to go ahead with the applique option.

To make the monogram more interesting and more formal we added a design from Monogram Flourishes 2 - one called 1960. This bold and symmetrical design is also satin stitch.

In order to balance the relationship between the letter and the frame - and to be sure that we didn't enlarge the satin stitch elements too much and trigger a switch from satin to fill in our software - we made the frame a bit bigger and the letter a bit smaller.

The overall size is 13" (330mm) tall by 13 1/4" (338mm) wide.

How we made these monograms

Embroidery software programs make it easy to delete elements, copy and paste elements from other designs, resize different aspects, and merge elements together into one new design. Each program is a bit different in how the Edit functions are managed. Once you have learned to use yours, creating new monograms from other monogram parts is creative and fun. Experiment with different arrangements and colors.
