Monogram Combinations

Unique Monograms combining multiple styles.

Monogram Styles Used:

Monogram: AW

This two-letter monogram was inspired by a design sent in to our Gallery by a customer - Cathy Sundermann.

This person is lucky enough to have two initials - A and W - which are symmetrical and nest easily with each other. We combined letters from the two sizes in our Moderne 5 XL Monogram Set, using the larger letter W for the last initial.

To add a frame to make the monogram more formal, we looked through the designs that are part of Monogram Flourishes Set 1. The design called Year:1932 seemed promising. It has left and right versions, allowing the spacing between the two halves to be easily adjusted. The satin stitch brackets enclose areas of manual seed stitch, adding an interesting texture, and there is a row of five small circular accents.

Merging the left and right versions of this Flourish design into the AW combination in our software, it quickly became apparent that these should go on the top and bottom, rather than the left and right, because in that position the shapes were a nice compliment to the rounded parts of the letters.

We chose a soft overall color scheme, with a darker color for the W to emphasize it as the last initial,.

The overall size is 11 1/8" (283mm) tall by 4 3/4" (121mm) wide. To sew it out we rotated the design 90 degrees.

How we made these monograms

Embroidery software programs make it easy to delete elements, copy and paste elements from other designs, resize different aspects, and merge elements together into one new design. Each program is a bit different in how the Edit functions are managed. Once you have learned to use yours, creating new monograms from other monogram parts is creative and fun. Experiment with different arrangements and colors.
