Monogram Combinations

Unique Monograms combining multiple styles.

Monogram Styles Used:

Monogram: G with border

Single initial monograms are very popular - we wanted to create a special one for someone with the last initial G.

The letter G was selected from our Arabesque Monogram Set 10 - it has a smooth, classic look with a looping element coming off the lower left section of the letter.

In order to frame this initial with something compatible, a border element with a similar graceful character seemed appropriate. We added the border from Oval Monogram Set 2, which has two elements, one with a curl. The original version is a horizontal shape, so it needed to be rotated 90 degrees to the left to be compatible with the verticality of the initial, and enlarged slightly.

These two elements look comfortable together - but perhaps a bit plain. This feminine monogram suggested the addition of some sort of flower detail. A section of the border from Romanesque Monogram Set 5 (digitized from artwork from the 1930s) has an arching shape. It was reduced in scale a bit, and inserted in the sewing sequence so that the base of this detail is covered up by the oval border.

The overall size of this monogram is 5 1/2" (140mm) tall by 3 5/8" (92mm) wide.

How we made these monograms

Embroidery software programs make it easy to delete elements, copy and paste elements from other designs, resize different aspects, and merge elements together into one new design. Each program is a bit different in how the Edit functions are managed. Once you have learned to use yours, creating new monograms from other monogram parts is creative and fun. Experiment with different arrangements and colors.
