Monogram: GNB

A simple modern-looking three letter monogram with some small, interesting embellishments - that was the project description.

We began with the large center letter B from the Art Nouveau Monogram Set 5. It has a nice vertical quality with a loop at the bottom of the lower section of the B. For flanking letters (G and N) something also vertical seemed appropriate, perhaps a little thinner, with round and straight elements.

Our online feature "View Each Letter of the Alphabet in All Available Monogram Fonts" made is easier to search through possibilities. The smaller size letters from the Moderne Monogram Set 5 looked like good possibilities, so they were merged with the B in our embroidery software program - placed so that the lower edge of each flanking letter aligned with the left leg of the B.

Now for some little embellishments - in keeping with the thin, modernist look of the letters, not too literal or complicated. This part took some experimenting, but eventually the decorations from the letter Y in the Arts and Crafts Monogram Set 6 worked perfectly (after eliminating the letter, deleting one of the stylized "fruit" designs, and creating a mirrored copy of the remaining embellishment.) These were placed on the left and right as brackets.

The overall size is 3 1/2" (89mm) tall by 5" (127mm) wide.

How we made these monograms

Embroidery software programs make it easy to delete elements, copy and paste elements from other designs, resize different aspects, and merge elements together into one new design. Each program is a bit different in how the Edit functions are managed. Once you have learned to use yours, creating new monograms from other monogram parts is creative and fun. Experiment with different arrangements and colors.
