Monogram Combinations

Unique Monograms combining multiple styles.

Monogram Styles Used:

Monogram: DBD

For this three-letter monogram the goal was to place smaller thin letters inside a wider letter. We began with the letter D from Homestead Monogram Set 2 as the last name initial. Deleting the leaves, diamond shape, and interior outlines produced an open platform for the rest of the monogram. The first and middle initials (D and B) came from Moderne Monogram Set 5 - the smaller versions - made a bit smaller in our embroidery software program, then positioned within the left and right portions of the larger satin stitch letter.

Although we wanted a simple plain monogram the result seemed a little too plain, so we put the diamond shape and bean stitch outline from the Homestead 2 letter back in the design, reduced a bit in size to fit the space inside the letter opening.

Homestead Monogram Set 2 is digitized for applique. In this combination we used the letter as completely open (no digitizing changes necessary) but doing this as an applique would add a nice additional design element.

The overall size is 3 1/2"(89mm) tall by 4 1/8"(106mm) wide.

How we made these monograms

Embroidery software programs make it easy to delete elements, copy and paste elements from other designs, resize different aspects, and merge elements together into one new design. Each program is a bit different in how the Edit functions are managed. Once you have learned to use yours, creating new monograms from other monogram parts is creative and fun. Experiment with different arrangements and colors.
