Monogram Combinations

Unique Monograms combining multiple styles.

Monogram Styles Used:

Monogram: PCH

A three-letter monogram design that utilizes a larger letter in the center for the last initial is creating a visual aide to identify and feature the individual's last (family) name.

To add additional emphasis for this chairback monogram, we wanted to combine contrasting styles. We started with the large center initial - H - from the Royal XL Monogram Set, which is tall, graceful, classical. We looked through other styles to find something that was also tall, but simple, straight, typographic. The Romanesque 7 XL Applique Monogram Set has central letters incorporated into a rectangular border, and smaller satin stitch flanking letters that can be merge with the central design. We chose the flanking letters for this project from those smaller letters (P and C), and placed them on either side of the H.

To complete the three-letter monogram it seemed that some sort of brackets would be useful. After browsing through several options we chose the brackets from Diamond Monogram Set 6, which have an interesting manual seed stitch area bordered with a satin stitch outline.

The overall size is 7" (177mm) tall by 6 3/8" (163mm) wide.

How we made these monograms

Embroidery software programs make it easy to delete elements, copy and paste elements from other designs, resize different aspects, and merge elements together into one new design. Each program is a bit different in how the Edit functions are managed. Once you have learned to use yours, creating new monograms from other monogram parts is creative and fun. Experiment with different arrangements and colors.
