Determine the exact center of the design by measuring the width, then the height. Mark this spot with a pencil, then make a hole with a paper punch at the center point. Place this template on the hooped fabric, then position the needle directly over the design center. Feedback or Questions about "Precise Placement" (3) I'm just learning to machine embroidery. How do I know where the design stiching will begin. I think I have my machine set, then the design moves in the frame. Embroideryarts Support answers: Correctly digitized designs always begin and end in the center of the design. Unless your machine has a centering feature that can be turned off, this should happen automatically. Normally there is no value in avoiding a center start. The first stitch will occur wherever the digitizer has placed it, but the machine will still locate the needle at the center point of the design. Be sure that you are using a hoop larger than the design, and locate your needle in the center of the hoop. Things can get a bit more complicated when you use an embroidery software program on your computer to resize a design, or to combine/merge individual designs together into one new design. Some software programs will automatically recenter the new design when it is saved. Some require you to manually recenter the new or revised design before saving it. --Posted by: terri s at November 15, 2006 01:06 PM If a handkerchief you are monograming has woven line patterns around the edge, do you monogram over that or place the design out of the lined area? EmbroideryArts Support answers: It would be typical to avoid sewing over the woven details in a men's handkerchief.
