Hot Iron Transfer Patterns were first made in 1879, and continued to be popular with hand embroiderers until the mid-1950s. A vast array of subject matter was covered, and the artwork was designed to be transferred as line art to fabric. These monogram designs were available in the 1930s. We have digitized separate colors for each portion of the design, but this would also looks stunning done white-on-white for a wedding gift. The letters are raised satin stitch, and the display border with decorative bow is done in satin stitch, accented with French knots.

This monogram style is English, dating from about 1900. There is a very delicate vine and leaf pattern in the background, composed of thin satin stitches and bean stitches, along with two-color satin stitch flowers. The letters are a serif block style, done in satin stitch fill with a thin outline detail. The overall motif creates a square. Inspired by the great typography designer J. M. Bergling (1866-1933) this fluid satin stitch nonogram style can be used with or without the brackets that complete the circular motif. Left, middle, and right versions of each letter are included, along with an additional placement template design.

A note about interlocking letters - a true interlocking three-letter monogram can only be achieved by custom digitizing. There are 17,576 possible combinations of three letters.The monogram pictured here is achieved by overlapping the letters. Where one letter passes over another, we suggest that some stitches be edited manually in your software to create the smoothest result.

Taken from artwork from a 1933 French publication for professional embroiders, this versatile triangle style includes everything needed to create many variations for two-letter monograms. There are left and right side versions of the alphabet, which can be used alone or in combination with the triangular border. There are also left and right versions of two styles of corner brackets. These satin stitch designs can be used on anything, but are particularly useful for on-point napkin monograms.
